Zhengzhou experiences the strongest rainfall in history

Since 16:30 on July 20, Zhengzhou flood control and Drought Relief Headquarters has upgraded the flood control level II emergency response to level I.


With the approval of the central war zone, 730 PLA officers and soldiers, 1159 armed police officers and soldiers, more than 60 vehicles, 6760 fire rescue team officers and soldiers, 1383 vehicles, 690 militia, 35 assault boats and 25784 sets of other rescue equipment have been deployed to participate in the rescue. According to the rain report of Lushan County Meteorological Bureau, all towns and townships in the county experienced heavy rain to extraordinarily heavy rain. Zhang Ning, chief forecaster of Henan Meteorological Observatory, summed up five characteristics of this heavy rainfall: long duration, large accumulated rainfall, wide range of heavy rainfall, concentrated period of heavy rainfall and extreme. Since July 17, there have been four days of heavy rainfall in the western and central and western regions of Henan Province, and the heavy rainfall will continue. There are 4098 rainfall stations in the whole province, with precipitation exceeding 50 mm, 1923 stations exceeding 100 mm and 606 stations exceeding 250 mm.


At present, the cities affected by the heavy rainfall in Henan Province are making every effort to organize the rescue work. In Lushan County of Pingdingshan City, in order to cope with the heavy rainfall, the county organized a flood control team of 22000 people, and the member units of the headquarters set up a flood control and emergency team of 1000 people, with a reserve of more than 220000 woven bags, 10 tons of lead wire, 4 assault boats, and more than 1200 life jackets. At present, Lushan County has launched flood control IV level emergency response, and organized party members and cadres to spare no effort in rescue and disaster relief.
